New Meeting and Calling functionality announced for Microsoft Teams

New Meeting and Calling functionality announced for Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams turned 2 years old in March this year. Coinciding with it’s Birthday Microsoft have announced a whole host of updates to Teams at Enterprise Connect. We’ve picked out some of the notable ones for you, particularly focussing on Meetings and Calling.

April 2019 brings a new calendar experience in the Teams app, which will bring three new views, day, work week and week. You’ll be able to edit non-teams meetings right from teams, instead of having to switch to outlook. And you’ll be able to join, RSVP, edit and cancel meetings right from Teams.

Coming soon to public preview is Live captions in English, which will give attendees the option to read captions of the speaker in the meeting in real-time. Great for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have different language fluency.

Adding to already available background blur is customizing backgrounds, which will allow users to select a more professional background when working remotely.

The one we like the most though is being able to use a USB camera in a Teams meeting to capture a physical whiteboard within a meeting room, so that remote participant can still clearly see the whiteboard in the online meeting. We’ve all been there when a colleague starts writing on the whiteboard and you can’t see it, so can’t join in; this will put an end to that scenario.

There have been some calling update features announced as coming soon. Media bypass is now available for direct routing, meaning that you can improve voice quality in a number of scenarios!

And a few features announced which are coming soon include, dynamic e911, location based routing, music on hold and busy on busy. Common features that voice admins want.

Skype for Business and Lync Server 2013 are now going to be supported when using Cloud Voicemail too, which has been available for online users for 2 years now.

We’ve picked out a few of our favourites but there were a whole host of other features that have been announced at enterprise connect too. See more here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Teams-Blog/What-s-new-in-Microsoft-Teams-the-Enterprise-Connect-feature/ba-p/376255
